Sales of BEVs and PHEVs increased by more than double in March 2021, according to the latest figures by SMMT.
The latest new passenger car registration figures released by SMMT for March 2021 showed that sales of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) increased by over double (112.5%) compared to March sales 2020. Analysis by ZapMap (View HERE) showed a great picture for dealers’ March activity in the EV market.
Overall, BEVs and PHEVs took a combined market share of 13.9%, up from 7.3% last year. The number of models available to customers grew from 72 to 116. Registrations of BEVs increased by 88.2% to 22,003 units, while PHEVs rose by 152.2% to 17,330. Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) also rose 42.0% to reach 21,599 registrations.
In contrast, sales of ICE showed a drop for both diesel (-31.4%) and petrol (-10%).
